NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
The National General certificate in Occupational Health and Safety syllabus has been streamlined to allow core skills to be considered in greater depth. It covers how to effectively manage health and safety, the UK’s key legal requirements and how to identify and control the key workplace hazards in every kind of workplace. Risk assessment is central to the National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification making sure it reflects the real-life roles people perform.
The National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is held by over 200,000 people and has been designed to reflect the needs of today’s employer. We have a variety of learning options available for this course including classroom and e-learning.
Whatever the mode of study, it is assessed by a combination of:
- One open book examination question paper to assess what you know
- One practical – a risk assessment to assess what you can do
You will complete a risk assessment and develop an action plan for your workplace that will be useful and a valuable tool to help you minimise the risks

Risk assessment is central to the National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification and through your study and workplace application, you will be able to:

The assessment is a two-step process, which checks what you know and can do and consists of:
- An open book examination
- A practical risk assessment
Both assessments are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. These examiners are chosen for their experience and expertise to ensure that learners are assessed by the best from our industry.
The fees for both assessments are included in the price however, if a re-sit is required then this would incur an additional cost as determined by the current Nebosh costs

Our one-day exam tutorials are available prior to the exam dates and are a great way to work through any areas where you may require additional support. They are tailored to the exam unit and focus on the needs of the attendees such as finalising key topics and developing exam techniques.
